The Gas Appliances Regulation (GAR) is a regulation issued by the European Union in 2016, numbered Regulation (EU) 2016/426, and became mandatory on April 21, 2018, completely replacing the old Gas Appliances Directive (GAD) 2009/142/EC

Scope of application of GAR instruction

The GAR directive applies to appliances and their safety control components or assemblies that use gas fuel as the primary energy source for cooking, heating, hot water, cooling, lighting, or washing. These appliances include cooking utensils, ovens, stoves, grills, tea/coffee making equipment, water heaters, combination boilers, burners, etc., mainly used in places such as hotels, homes, and restaurants. Gas combustion equipment for pure industrial engineering purposes is not within the scope of the GAR directive
