IEC releases standards for high-voltage switchgear and control equipment

On May 2, 2024, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) released the standard IEC TS 62271-5:2024 "High voltage switchgear and control gear - Part 5: General specifications for DC switchgear and control gear". This standard applies to DC switchgear and control equipment designed specifically for high-voltage direct current transmission (HVDC) transmission systems with a DC voltage of 100 kV and above.

This standard applies to all high-voltage switchgear and control equipment used for indoor and/or outdoor installation, except for those specified in IEC related standards for specific types of switchgear and control equipment.
